The sandwich generation, caught between aging parents and children, includes approximately 20 million Americans. In this emotionally charged account of family care, filmmaker Julie Winokur and her husband, photojournalist Ed Kashi, and share their personal lives with unflinching candor. Winokur and Kashi uprooted their two children and her business to move about 3000 miles cross-country for Winokur's father, Herbie care. At 83, Herbie suffers from dementia and can no longerliving alone. Winokur and Kashi with difficult choices and overwhelming responsibility faced as they head load through their sandwich year. It is a story about love, family dynamics and the immeasurable sacrifice of those who are caught in the middle.
