Some of the best things on Earth originated in Italy, and that everything from the great art, design includes, and architecture to food and of course the people. Some of the apparent sizes of all time on my list are the Mona Lisa Pizza, the Leaning Tower of Pizza, Sophia Loren, Al Pacino, Chloe, Armani and Vespa scooters. Then there are the great cultural traditions, such as taking 2 hours nap in the middle of the workday, and with a few drinks at every meal. You've gottalove it.
But you also have the small beads that are not so well known in mainstream pop culture, but that is no less extraordinary, as the architect Mario Botta. Not just a symbol, but very talented. If you have been to Italy and you want good-looking men, you can at the hip to the phenomenon of the Italian police. Friends, who have seen first hand they say to me that is one of the prerequisites for the job of genetically superior to the rest of humanity.
And somewhere inthe mix you will find Acca Kappa. That translates as "HK" in English. In Italian, which stands for "H. Krull and company." So who is this H. Krull and why do I care? Good question.
Arthur H. Krull began the company known as Acca Kappa, a manufacturer of personal care products such as soaps, perfumes, colognes, and shaving accessories. When it started back in 1869, it was the only product of hairbrushes. That was, if only all the brushes on the marketwere made of hardwood and boar's hair or natural bristle. Acca Kappa makes them still so, more than one hundred years later. Anyway, since then they have become one of the best known Italian manufacturer of personal care products, bath and body, fragrances, and shaving products.
I know this may not sound so exciting. Frankly, I never thought I would have a lot of personal care treatment a few years ago. And do notget me wrong, I've always liked to share the latest trend Cologne, or about something other than a 99-cent can of Barbasol shaving. Finally, I am a guy, but I have a little taste (and sensitive skin.)
Anyway, one fateful day a few years ago, my wife and I spent a weekend in Las Vegas at the Venetian. We went on a shopping spree at the Venetian faux sky in the retail mall of the hotel and wander randomly in the Acca Kappa Boutique. (From that timeeverything changed. But I'll get to that later part.)
The small boutique had a stylish "ambience" of it, and there was another quality that you could not help notice - it smelled great. We found herbal soaps from things like avocado, pear, a mysterious plant produced so-called white moss, another as Calycanthus, and of course - olive (we are talking about Italy is not it?)
There were perfumes and colognes, bath and shower gel, candles, brushes and brush. One of themost important aspects of this line, which we later learned is the fact that the product is all natural ingredients (which means an environmentally conscious approach to manufacturing the stuff good for you, your skin and the environment.) But there was a manifest quality: cool how everything looked and felt.
The packaging was great, and if you picked a product that you could "feel" the craftsmanship in the hand. The Boutique The interior decor was clean andtimely. The dark-stained hardwood brush looked so much like home accents as they are personal care items. Once again, I never saw it coming, but within a few minutes I had a great fan of Italian ... Toiletries. In essence, this is only reinforced what I already believed: the Italians can do nothing "look and feel attractive.
Return to this remark, like "everything changed." What I will not mention before the whole for a while before we start the trip, my wife hasand I had come around the concept of starting a business of our own. We had a few ideas, including the import of goods from India (where they came from) or Italy (I'm Italian-American.) We were not on what the market decided to focus on yet, but "Bath and Body "was on the list of possibilities. As fate would have it there, that at the time we walked out of this shop, a picture of our future begins to emerge.
A short time later, we established a retail boutique companies built on the conceptfine Italian personal care products and accessories. And not surprisingly, that the mark has been our flagship line and is still our personal favorite, was none other than Acca Kappa. Since then we have expanded into the wholesale of another unique and well-together series of men's fragrances and skin care products from Italy. But I digress.
The moral of the story is that Acca Kappa definitely deserves his place in history rightthere next to Sophia Loren and pizza. Okay, that would be pushing it a little. Still, I think it's fair to say the company has its mark on the world of the great Italian creations. And that is impressive when you consider that he return this inheritance in Treviso, Italy started in 1869, Mr. Krull is little more than an immigrant fresh off the boat ... from Austria.
